PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
SS 316L Plates and Sheets are the low carbon version of the Grade 316 sheets. These SS UNS S31603 plates have reduced grain boundary precipitation and therefore are extensively used in heavy gauge welded components (over about 6mm). The austenitic structure of the SS 316L grade sheets offer excellent toughness, even down to cryogenic temperatures. The SS 316 grade sheets are magnetic in nature and they cannot be hardened by heat treatment. The microstructure of the SS UNS S31603 plates is derived from the addition of Nickel, Manganese, and Nitrogen. These sheets perform very well in high-temperature conditions. The SS 316L sheets have the useful property of being able to be work-hardened to high strength levels whilst retaining a useful level of ductility and toughness. There is no significant difference in the price of 316 and 316L and compared to chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel, 316L stainless steel offers higher creep, stress to rupture and tensile strength at elevated temperatures.
SS UNS S31603 plates are used in various industries. Food preparation equipment, particularly in chloride environments, use SS 316L sheets. These sheets and plates also have a lot of applications in marine and architectural industries. Rubber, plastics, pulp & paper machinery. Pollution control equipment, Boat fittings, valve and pump trim, Heat exchangers, Pharmaceutical and textile industries are some of the other industries where SS 316L plates are used.
