Stainless steel 443, which is a kind of ferritic stainless steel, is now generally used to replace 304. Its rust resistance and processing performance are comparable to those of 304. It is currently widely promoted in the fields of electrical appliances, utensils, kitchen equipment, elevators, and oven making.
The chemical composition and mechanical properties of stainless steel 443:
Carbon [C] = 0.01%, Chromium [Cr] = 21.0%, Titanium [Ti] = 0.3%,
Yield strength σ0.2 = 305Mpa,
Tensile strength σb = 483Mpa,
Elongation El = 31%.
443 stainless steel substrate pitting resistance index is 300mv, comparable to 304 stainless steel, high thermal stability, good tensile properties.
Material properties are superior to ordinary ferritic stainless steel:
443 stainless steel improves corrosion resistance by increasing Cr, lowering C, and adding Ti. Improved pitting resistance: increasing the Cr content increases the corrosion resistance of the stainless steel substrate, and increasing Ti improves its pitting resistance. The increase of Cr content increases the electrode potential of the stainless steel matrix. At the same time, Ti preferentially forms a stable compound with C in stainless steel, inhibits the combination of C and Cr in stainless steel, inhibits the appearance of Cr-depleted point and improves its pitting resistance.
The heat service life is improved: Ti element preferentially forms C compound, which inhibits the enrichment of C to the grain boundary under the heated condition, improves the thermal service life of the stainless steel, improves the intergranular corrosion resistance of the stainless steel, and improves the thermal stability of the stainless steel.
443 is widely used in architectural decoration, home appliance products, vehicle parts, and is a new type of high corrosion resistant multifunctional material because of its excellent corrosion resistance, formability, weldability and high temperature performance. It is an ideal material to replace 304 stainless steel.
